The quick answer
Prioritise a clinician's experience treating your skin tone and concern. Ask about pigmentation risks, settings and follow-up; a popular device or an English-speaking clinic is not enough to establish suitability.
Start with your skin history
Describe previous dark marks after acne, irritation or a procedure, any recent tanning, and the products or medicines you use. Ask the clinician to distinguish your actual concern before proposing a laser or peel.
The AAD notes that irritation can cause dark spots in darker skin. Tell the doctor about the products that have irritated you instead of assuming a more intensive procedure will solve the problem.

Ask for relevant experience
Ask which clinician will assess and treat you, how they adapt the plan and whether they can discuss similar cases. Photos can support a conversation, but they do not prove that you will have the same result. You should be able to understand the risk explanation before consenting.
Have a plan for pigment changes and follow-up
Discuss aftercare, what changes to report and whether you can return before flying. If the consultation does not give you confidence in the doctor's relevant experience, postponing a procedure is a reasonable outcome.
RF microneedling also has serious reported complications; it should not be treated as a universal safer alternative solely because you have a darker skin tone.

Questions to take to the clinic
- What experience do you have with this concern in patients with my skin tone?
- How do you assess pigmentation and scarring risks for me?
- Why are these settings and this method appropriate?
- What is the written total, including VAT, numbing, consumables and aftercare?
- Who handles follow-up, and how can I reach them after I leave Korea?
Common questions
Is there a universally safe laser for darker skin?
No device name alone establishes suitability. The diagnosis, skin history, settings and treating clinician matter; ask for an individual assessment and a clear follow-up plan.
Sources and scope
Service comparisons describe public features, not clinical quality. Reddit links show the questions travellers ask; personal accounts can be incomplete or promotional and are not medical evidence. Medical suitability and travel clearance require the treating clinician's assessment.
