Hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler 필러

Instant volume you can dissolve if you don't like it: Seoul's cheapest way to try lips, chin or cheeks, priced per syringe.

Seoul this week₩99,000$72 · 58 clinicsReviewed 2026-09-23 · sources
Our takeThe most forgiving injectable to try in Seoul: results are immediate and, unlike toxin or skin boosters, largely reversible if something looks off. The real decision is brand and injector, not whether to do it.
Best for
  • Lips, chin, cheeks or nasolabial folds
  • Anyone who wants to see the result before flying home
  • First-timers who want a reversible option
  • Adding volume rather than just softening lines
Skip if
  • You want a subtle, undetectable change on a very short trip: lips and under-eyes can look swollen for days
  • You're pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have an active cold sore, skin infection or are on blood thinners
  • You want the cheapest possible price and don't care which brand you get
Downtime5/10
In the Volbella lip trial, swelling cleared in 1–3 days for about half of people and took 4–7 days for a third, and most bruises lasted 4–7 days; cheeks usually swell less.
Comfort7/10
With lidocaine mixed into the gel, patients rated fold injections about 2.8 out of 10 in a 126-person split-face trial; lips are more sensitive.
Evidence9/10
Many randomized trials and FDA approval for each main use (lips, cheeks, folds, under-eyes), though most pivotal trials were paid for by the makers, such as Allergan.
Trip-friendly7/10
One visit and an instant result, but lip swelling often lasts past day 3, clinics suggest 24–72 hours before flying, and trials often added a touch-up about a month later.
Seoul value10/10
Seoul median about ₩99,000 per 1cc, under 10% of the US average of US$715 per hyaluronic acid filler treatment (ASPS).
Volume8/10
In FDA trials, 80% of lip patients gained at least one fullness grade at 3 months (Volbella) and 93% of cheek patients rated their cheeks improved at 6 months (Voluma).

Higher is better for a traveller. Tap a score to see why.

Pros and cons in full
What we like
  • Immediate, visible result, unlike toxin or skin boosters
  • Reversible: hyaluronidase can dissolve it if you don't like the outcome
  • Korean-brand medians run far below imported-brand and US prices
  • Works on many areas in one visit: lips, chin, cheeks, folds, under-eyes
  • Wide choice of Korean and imported brands to match budget or preference
Watch out for
  • Swelling can take up to two weeks to fully settle, longer than most people expect
  • Rare but serious risk: vascular occlusion, which can cause skin damage or, in the eye area, vision loss
  • Price varies hugely by brand: a Korean-brand 1cc and an imported Juvéderm 1cc are very different prices
  • Bruising is common, especially in lips and under the eyes
  • A poorly placed under-eye filler can look bluish (Tyndall effect) or cause persistent puffiness (malar edema)

When to get filler on your trip

Early in your trip, ideally with 5–7 days left, so lip or under-eye swelling has time to settle before you fly.

Any of these apply to you?
⏳

Before your flight home

Most clinics suggest waiting 24–72 hours before flying: cabin pressure and low humidity can worsen swelling and bruising, more so for lips.

One trip or a course?

One session is the whole treatment; you'll see most of the final shape within a week and the settled result by 2 weeks. Unlike Rejuran or Botox, there's no course to finish.

Combining treatments

Often paired with Botox or a skin booster in the same visit. Doctors typically do filler first, since it changes the shape they're working with.

Best season for filler in Seoul

Filler has no wound for the sun to mark, but heat, strong sun and exercise can add swelling at first. The FDA label says avoid them for 24 hours; Seoul's Asan Medical Center says no sauna or jjimjilbang for a week. That makes steamy midsummer the least convenient time. We found no study showing cold weather harms filler.

  • SpringGood. Mild weather makes the sauna-free week and the 2–3 days out of strong sun easy.
  • SummerLeast convenient: July averages about 76% humidity with heat waves to 35 °C and UV up to 10. Skin infections in general peak in hot months, though there's no filler-specific data.
  • AutumnGood. Comfortable, drier weather after the monsoon makes aftercare easy.
  • WinterFine: cold hasn't been shown to harm filler. Postpone if you have flu symptoms, since flu-like illness is linked to delayed filler swelling, and Korea's flu peaks December–January.
What age is filler best for?
  • 20sPopular for lips and chin, but trials mostly enrolled older people: the Volbella lip trial's median age was 53. At this age it's shaping, not restoring.
  • 30sFacial bone starts changing in your 20s, but age-related cheek trials such as Voluma's enrolled from 35. Good for early hollows and lips.
  • 40sCore trial age for midface volume loss (Voluma enrolled 35–65). Deep cheek fat deflates and cheeks flatten, which filler replaces well.
  • 50+Well studied: many lip and cheek trial participants were in their 50s–60s. With sagging skin, the evidence favours adding lifting to volume.
At the clinic

Filler at the clinic: red flags and what to say

Walk out if…

  • No doctor involved: in Korea only a licensed doctor may legally inject filler, though nurses may assist. Ask who is doing the injecting (원장님이 직접 진료하세요?) and confirm before you sit down
  • The clinic can't or won't show you the sealed syringe box before opening it, or tell you the exact brand and cc
  • A price far below this week's Seoul median with no explanation: it may be a diluted, generic, or unlicensed product
  • No mention of hyaluronidase on site or a plan for what happens if something looks wrong: a legitimate clinic doing filler should have it available for emergencies
  • Pressure to buy several syringes on the spot before you've seen how one looks
  • For the under-eye area specifically: a doctor who won't discuss using a cannula (gentler, statistically lower occlusion risk than a needle in vessel-dense areas) or who plans a large volume in one sitting

FAQ

Filler: questions people actually ask

How much does filler cost in Seoul?

This week's median across 58 Seoul clinic listings is about ₩99,000 for 1cc, with a range of ₩19,000–₩440,000. The low end is usually a Korean brand or a first-visit event price; the high end is typically Juvéderm.

Is HA filler reversible?

Yes, uniquely among common injectables. An enzyme called hyaluronidase breaks down the cross-linked hyaluronic acid, and most people see visible improvement within 24–48 hours of the dissolving injection.

How long does filler last?

It depends on the area: lips and other high-movement spots typically last 6–12 months, while denser areas like the chin, cheeks and nasolabial folds can last 12–24 months.

How soon can I fly after getting filler?

Most clinics suggest waiting 24–72 hours, longer for lips, since cabin pressure and low cabin humidity can worsen swelling and bruising.

What's the biggest risk with filler?

The rare but serious one is vascular occlusion, where filler blocks a blood vessel. It's more common with needles than with cannulas and less common with experienced injectors. Ask who is injecting you and whether the clinic keeps hyaluronidase on site.

Should I choose a Korean brand or an imported one?

Both are cross-linked hyaluronic acid and both are reversible. Korean brands like Neuramis, YVOIRE, Chaeum and Elasty are generally cheaper in Seoul; imported brands like Juvéderm, Restylane and Belotero cost more but are the same brands sold at home, which can matter if you want continuity.

How does filler work? The science

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that already exists in skin, where it holds water and adds volume. Cosmetic HA fillers cross-link (chemically bond) HA chains together so the gel resists the body's natural breakdown long enough to last months rather than hours.

Because it's still HA, the filler can be broken down early with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that cuts the cross-linked chains and lets the body clear the gel; most patients see visible improvement within 24–48 hours of a dissolving injection.

The most serious risk is vascular occlusion: filler accidentally injected into or compressing a blood vessel, cutting off blood supply to skin, or in rare cases the eye. Needle injections carry roughly six times the reported occlusion rate of blunt-tipped cannulas per syringe in one large analysis, and injectors with more than five years of filler experience were markedly less likely to cause an occlusion than less experienced ones.

If an occlusion happens, high-dose hyaluronidase given quickly, ideally within hours, is the standard emergency treatment and significantly improves outcomes; delayed treatment raises the risk of skin necrosis, scarring, or in eye-area cases, vision loss.

Duration varies by location because of tissue movement: lips and other high-movement areas break the filler down fastest (about 6–12 months), while denser, less mobile areas like the chin and cheeks can hold filler 12–24 months.
