Oligio 올리지오

Korea's own monopolar RF tightening, often called "Korean Thermage": same principle, gentler heat, a fraction of the price.

Seoul this week₩319,000$231 · 25 clinicsReviewed 2026-09-23 · sources
Our takeA sensible, low-drama tightening treatment for a Seoul trip: no needles, little to show afterwards, and much cheaper than Thermage. Expect a softer result that needs topping up more often.
Best for
  • Mild laxity and loss of firmness
  • Trips with zero recovery time
  • People who found Thermage too painful or too expensive
  • Pairing with a HIFU lift or a skin booster in one visit
Skip if
  • You have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, or metal implants in the face
  • You're pregnant
  • You have heavy sagging and want a visible lift (ask about Ultherapy, threads or surgery)
  • You have an active skin infection or inflammation in the area
Downtime8/10
Mild redness that clinics say fades in 2–4 hours; in the one clinical trial, 83% had redness that cleared within 1–2 days.
Comfort7/10
Average pain was 3.1 out of 10 in the clinical trial, and many clinics skip numbing.
Evidence5/10
One prospective study without a control group (30 Thai patients, co-funded by the maker Won Tech). The FDA clearance covers electrocoagulation, not tightening, and needed no clinical data.
Trip-friendly9/10
One visit of about 30–45 minutes, and Seoul clinics say flying the same or next day is fine. The main result builds over 1–3 months, after you're home.
Seoul value9/10
About ₩319,000 for 300 shots in Seoul, around 12% of the roughly US$1,900–2,850 US clinics charge for a full face; even 600 shots stays under a quarter.
Tightening6/10
In the one trial, 85–87% improved, but mostly mildly; about half reached moderate or better improvement by 6 months.

Higher is better for a traveller. Tap a score to see why.

Pros and cons in full
What we like
  • Same monopolar RF principle as Thermage, at about a third of the price per shot in Seoul listings
  • Gentler heat: many people don't need numbing
  • No needles, no wound, redness usually gone within hours
  • FDA-cleared and approved in Korea, with a study in Fitzpatrick III–V skin showing no serious side effects
  • Made in Korea, so it's widely available in Seoul
Watch out for
  • Subtler, shorter-lived tightening than Thermage FLX: plan on a top-up every 6–12 months
  • 300 shots is a light dose; clinics often push 600 or more for a visible result
  • Heats the dermis only, so it won't lift sagging the way HIFU at the SMAS layer can
  • Only one small published trial of this specific device (30 people, no control group)
  • Seoul price data is still thin: compare shot counts and Oligio vs Oligio X across clinics

Seoul clinics say flying the same or next day is fine. Skip saunas and hot yoga for the first 24–48 hours.

One session is a complete treatment and the result builds after you're home. Because it lasts about 6–12 months, it works well as a yearly or twice-yearly Seoul top-up.

Often paired with Ultherapy or Shurink in the same visit: HIFU for the deeper lift, Oligio for tightening the skin on top. Ask the clinic about the order and total shot counts.

For the next 1–2 days, skip:Saunas, jjimjilbang, hot showers and hot yoga for 24–48 hoursStrenuous exercise while the face is still warm or redAlcohol while your face is flushedAcids, retinoids and scrubs until any redness and tenderness have settledUnprotected sun: SPF from day one
Best season for Oligio in Seoul

Oligio leaves no wound: in its trial in Fitzpatrick III–V skin, redness cleared in 1–2 days and nobody had pigment problems. Patients used SPF 30+ and avoided direct sun, which is easiest outside summer.

  • SpringFine. UV climbs to 7–8 by April–May and yellow dust peaks in March–April, but there is no wound. Use SPF 30+ and a hat.
  • SummerWorks, but UV 9–10, 30°C+ heat and jangma humidity from late June to late July make staying out of direct sun and sweat harder.
  • AutumnBest balance: UV falls to 4–7 and the weather is mild. Firmness builds over 1–6 months, so it shows by winter.
  • WinterLow UV (2–3), easy sun avoidance. One trial patient had temporary facial dryness, so pack a rich moisturiser for the dry wind.
What age is Oligio best for?
  • 20sNo Oligio data under 43, and no controlled proof that preventive RF works. Some Seoul clinics treat late-20s patients anyway.
  • 30sLikely strong responders: in a large trial of two similar monopolar RF devices, under-40s did about twice as well. No Oligio study has tested this age group directly.
  • 40sThe best-evidenced group: the only Oligio trial enrolled ages 43–53 with mild-to-moderate laxity, and lower-face tightening kept improving to 6 months.
  • 50+Thin evidence: the trial stopped at 53, and RF does little for moderate-to-severe sagging. For heavy jowls, HIFU or surgery does more.

Oligio at the clinic: red flags and what to say

Walk out if…

  • The clinic can't tell you whether it's Oligio or Oligio X, or how many shots you're getting
  • A tip that's already open before you arrive. The tip is single-use: ask to see a new one opened
  • A 300-shot price that turns out to cover only one area, not the full face
  • No questions about pacemakers, pregnancy or metal implants before treatment
  • Pressure to add hundreds of extra shots or a multi-session package on the spot

Oligio: questions people actually ask

How much does Oligio cost in Seoul?

This week's median across 25 Seoul clinic listings is about ₩319,000 for 300 shots, with a range of ₩199,000–₩495,000. Clinics' own listed regular prices run higher (median ₩490,000), and Oligio X can cost more. In the US, one California clinic lists Oligio X full face at US$1,899–2,298, and a Korean clinic guide quotes US$2,000–2,850 per session.

Is Oligio the same as Thermage?

Same principle, different device. Both use 6.78 MHz monopolar RF to heat the dermis, and the FDA cleared Oligio using Thermage FLX as its comparison device. Thermage is generally considered to give stronger, longer-lasting tightening; Oligio is gentler and, in Seoul listings, costs about a third as much per shot.

Oligio or HIFU (Ultherapy, Shurink)?

They work at different depths. Oligio heats the dermis to tighten and firm the skin. HIFU reaches the deeper SMAS layer to lift. For sagging along the jaw, HIFU does more; for loose, crepey or less firm skin, Oligio fits. Many Seoul clinics combine them in one visit.

Is 300 shots enough?

It's a light full-face dose, often used for mild tightening or prevention. Korean clinics commonly suggest 400–600 shots for visible tightening, and more for sagging or when the neck is included. In the only clinical study, people received about 412 shots to the middle and lower face, without the neck.

Does Oligio hurt?

Most people describe steady warmth rather than sharp pain. In a clinical study the average pain score was 3.1 out of 10, and many clinics don't use numbing cream. Bony areas can feel hotter.

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

Some tightening shows straight away, then firmness builds over 1–3 months and can keep improving up to 6 months. Results typically last about 6–12 months, so many people repeat it once or twice a year.

What's the difference between Oligio and Oligio X?

Oligio X is the newer version. It adds two modes, one for the upper dermis and one for deeper layers, plus redesigned tips and cooling. Ask which one you're getting, since it affects the price.

How does Oligio work? The science

Monopolar RF at 6.78 MHz passes current from the tip through the skin to a return pad, heating the dermis while a cryogen spray keeps the surface cool. The heat makes existing collagen contract, which is why some people see slight tightening straight away, and triggers new collagen over the following months.

Oligio received FDA 510(k) clearance in October 2022 with Thermage FLX as its predicate device, meaning the FDA judged it substantially equivalent to Thermage. The newer Oligio X has its own clearances (most recently January 2025). Its US clearance covers only electrocoagulation and hemostasis of soft tissue, and no clinical studies were needed for it. Thermage FLX is also cleared for non-invasive treatment of wrinkles.

In a 2022 study at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok, co-funded by the maker Won Tech, 30 people with Fitzpatrick skin types III–V had one Oligio session (about 412 shots on average to the middle and lower face). There was no control group. Blinded dermatologists found improvement in lower-face laxity that kept building at 1, 3 and 6 months. Average pain was 3.1 out of 10; 83% had redness that cleared within 1–2 days, and there were no serious side effects.

HIFU devices like Ultherapy and Shurink work differently: they focus ultrasound into points as deep as 4.5 mm, reaching the SMAS layer. That's why clinics often combine the two, HIFU for lift and RF for skin tightening.
